Nelson is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, with diverse geography capturing everything from long golden beaches to untouched forests and rugged mountains.Perhaps it's the sun, perhaps it's the location, but Nelson has long been a magnet for creative people. With one of the largest numbers of working artists and galleries in the country, you'll find an array of craftspeople living in the region.  Visit their studios, explore the weekend craft markets, taste the delicious locally made artisan products and find something extraordinary to take home with you.

Nelson is a city at the top of the South Island of New Zealand, facing Tasman Bay.  It is New Zealands second oldest city and it is  only a short drive the renowned Abel Tasman National Park.  

ACTIVITIES TO CHOOSE FROM: (Choice of 2 included)

1. Cycle the Great Taste Trail - 1/2 day:

Looping through the Tasman Bay towns of Nelson, Wakefield, Richmond, Motueka and Kaiteriteri, the Great Taste Trail is a terrific way to tour the attractions of this popular holiday destination.

Its mix of rural, urban, coastal and riverside scenery is a fabulous feast for the eyes. Natural beauty, however, is only part of the appeal, with this trail serving up a tantalising array of tasty attractions – from art galleries and boutique shopping, to fruit stalls, cafes, craft beer pubs, and winery restaurants. Numerous access points and convenient bike hire make it easy to get a taste of the trail and a few options of routes are available to choose from.

2. Visit the National World of Wearable Arts & Classic Cars Museum - 1/2 day:

The National WOW Museum & Nelson Classic Cars Museum is an iconic 'must see' Nelson NZ visitor attraction.  A passionate celebration of craft, form and art.   World of Wearable Art is an internationally recognised design competition, attracting entries from more than 40 countries each year. The competition features wearable art entries, which are judged on durability, the safety and comfort of the models, and the impact of the design on the stage.

The Nelson Classic Car Collection brings you 100 Years of Motoring, showcasing an eclectic, world-class private collection that is one of Australasia's largest.

3. Cable Bay Adventure Park - Sky Wire Experience - 1/2 day:

The Cable Bay Adventure Park is Nelson's adventure destination.   Located just 15 minutes drive from the centre of Nelson it is home to a wide range of adventure activities, with an onsite licensed cafe and free access to the parks trails there is something to cater for everyone.  On your way to the Sky Wire Experience your tour starts with a 4km ride in one of our 4-wheel drive vehicles, passing through pristine native forest . The Skywire is set 300m above our base café and has incredible views of Cable and Delaware Bays, the western ranges and north towards D'urville island. 

Strapped securely into the ride with 5-point harnesses, the Skywire seats up to four “flyers” at a time, with around 800m of gravity assisted free-wheeling, reaching speeds of up to 100 kph, followed by 800m at a more leisurely pace - ideal for taking in the incredible scenery. Then you do it all again - BACKWARDS!

SUGGESTED ADD ON ACTIVITIES (pending time required in Nelson):

  • Mapua Coastal Walk
  • Explore the Maupa Village for cafes, potteries, wineries, artisans along roads and trails
  • Visit the historical thatched settlers' cottage at Mahana or investigate the ‘rock' pools and bush walks at McKee Domain.  Walk from McKee to Kina Peninsula at low tide – and rest up at Jester House Café (wacky art, eel feeding, great food) on the way back.
  • Vortex Wind Karting
  • McCashin's Brewery
  • Saturday Markets in Nelson
  • Sunday Market in Motueka
  • Kahurangi National Park and Abel Tasman National Park (45 min drive) are within the wider region and for those that fancy a bit further – the gorgeous Golden Bay is just over an hour away.
